The Highlands are famous for their traditional cèilidhs and this concert promises to be a cracker! With dance music from talented local brothers Iain and Murdo Cameron, interspersed with top quality Gaelic song from traditional Mod gold medallists Christine Primrose and Mairi Sìne Chaimbeul plus young Argyll singer Joy Dunlop. The cèilidh is completed with a mixture of songs and tunes from the Fèis an Earraich Cèilidh Trail.

Bringing together one of Scotland’s finest young fiddle players along with two of the country’s most talented clàrsach players. Jenna Reid released her debut solo CD “With Silver and All” in 2005 to critical acclaim and performs with the group Dòchas. The Duplets are Freya Thomsen and Gillian Fleetwood who are “flying the flag for modern Scottish harp music.” Their dynamic and innovative style has brought them critical acclaim. The programme is completed with a mix of songs and tunes from the 2008 Fèis an Earraich Cèilidh Trail crew.

Julie Fowlis & Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh | Angus Nicolson

Julie Fowlis is originally from North Uist and in 2007 she picked up the Gaelic Singer and Album of Year awards at the Scots Trad Music Awards and she is the 2008 BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year. She will perform with Irish singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, who is in the band Danú. As well as awards with the band, Muireann won the “Best Singer" title at the liveireland.com Awards in 2005. They will be joined by Sleat based piper Angus Nicolson who has won various awards over the years, including success at the prestigious Northern Meetings in Inverness.

Cherish the Ladies and Friends

This is a very welcome appearance at Blas from the US based traditional Irish group. The past years have seen the group travelling all over North and South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand performing in the finest concert halls and at international festivals. They will be joined by a duo of young musicians from Cape Breton, Chrissy Crowley on fiddle and Jason Roach on piano. The line up is completed with Gaelic song from another young Cape Bretoner, Lewis MacKinnon.

We gather all of our Cape Breton guests to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig for a final stramash, featuring duo Andrea Beaton and Kimberley Fraser, Gaelic singer Lewis MacKinnon plus the duo of Chrissy Crowley and Jason Roach on fiddle and piano. Skye’s very own Cara Maclean will join in on the step dancing. Their music, song and dance is infectious and will leave the audience calling for more!
