Teudan is eile - Strings 'n Things

Tonight we present a concert featuring one of Scotland’s top fiddle players, alongside a guitarist of international standing. Jenna Reid released her debut solo CD “With Silver and All” in 2005 to critical acclaim and is a member of the highly talented group Dòchas. She will lead her band alongside one of Canada’s premier singer songwriters, JP Cormier on a rare but welcome visit to Scotland.

Taigh Cèilidh - Cèilidh House

Mackenzie, a Gaelic vocal group of sisters Eilidh, Gillian and Fiona from the village of Gress on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, is the result of many years of involvement in the world of music and song - Gaelic music and song in particular. Gary Innes is a fantastic accordion player from Spean Bridge and his debut CD “How’s the Craic” is a must have in any CD collection. He is joined by BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Ewan Robertson whose vocal and accompaniment talents are simply outstanding. The evening’s programme is completed by a lively mix of songs and tunes from the 2008 Fèisean Lochabair Cèilidh Trail crew.

Julie Fowlis & Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh


Julie Fowlis & Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh | Chrissy Crowley & Jason Roach |  Fèis Lochabair

Julie Fowlis is originally from North Uist and as well as being a Gaelic singer, is also a highly talented multi-instrumentalist. In 2007 she picked up the Gaelic Singer and Album of Year awards at the Scots Trad Music Awards and she is the current BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year. She will perform with Irish singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, who is in the band Danú. As well as awards with the band, she won the “Best Singer" title at the liveireland.com Awards in 2005. Joining them tonight will be Chrissy Crowley (Fiddle) and Jason Roach (Piano), two highly talented young musicians from Cape Breton. The programme will be completed with a group from the locally based Fèis Lochabair.

Dàimh are a fantastic group of musicians from all over the world; Ireland, Canada, the US and of course, Scotland. All however have made the Highlands their home and their brand of fiery tunes, mixed with beautiful Gaelic songs from double Mod gold medallist Calum Alex MacMillan, make Dàimh one of the must see live acts on the scene. They will be joined this evening by talented young Cape Breton duo Andrea Beaton and Kimberley Fraser.

This is a very welcome appearance at Blas from the US based traditional Irish group. The past years have seen the group travelling all over North and South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand performing in the finest concert halls and at international festivals. They are joined by Gaelic singing sensation Rachel Walker, whose two albums, “Braighe Loch Iall” and “Fon Reul Sholas” have received critical acclaim. The programme is completed by local boy Gary Innes on accordion, joined by BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Ewan Robertson.

The Finlay MacDonald Band brings together the tightest of jazz and funk grooves with blistering traditional and contemporary tunes on pipes and fiddle. The band has been in it's current line up for three years and features Chris Stout (Fiddle),Kevin MacKenzie (Guitar), John Speirs (Bass) and Fergus MacKenzie (Drums).The Finlay MacDonald Band have been forging a reputation as one of the hottest live acts to come out of Scotland and are in demand all over Europe for festivals, one off gigs and full tours. Also on stage will be the sensational 2008 Fèisean Lochaber Cèilidh Trail crew.

The Finlay MacDonald Band brings together the tightest of jazz and funk grooves with blistering traditional and contemporary tunes on pipes and fiddle. The band has been in it's current line up for three years and features Chris Stout (Fiddle),Kevin MacKenzie (Guitar), John Speirs (Bass) and Fergus MacKenzie (Drums). This family event also features the harmonious Coisir Òg Lochabair and the final Blas outing for the Fèisean Lochabair Cèilidh Trail.
