Scottish Natural Heritage is supporting the Blas Festival this year as part of our contribution to the Scottish Venison Partnership.  Our promotion at the opening event at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness will link our land and culture with that healthiest of Scottish produce, Scottish venison.

A new commission combining newly composed and traditional material influenced by Heisgeir (or The Monach Isles as they are often referred to).  Building on her own family connections to Heisgeir, Julie has taken inspiration from the geography, history and legend of these now uninhabited islands to produce a new musical work.  Using lyrical, filmic, narrative and musical devices to bring different aspects of the work to life, ‘Heisgeir’ will feature acclaimed musicians Éamon Doorley and Duncan Chisholm.

Iain Morrison and Dàibhaidh Martin bring their music and poetry, The Monach Isle Cèilidh band bring their great tunes, Christine Stone brings her winning voice and our young friends from Fèis a’ Chaolais bring their vibrant talents - all in one great night at Lochinver.

Inspired by the fascinating story of the boat which once plied the waters between their ancestral homelands, Maggie MacInnes from Barra in the Outer Hebrides and Colum Sands from County Down have woven a bi-lingual tapestry of songs old and new, reaching across the waves that divide and join their homeplaces.

Blas celebrates the Year of Scotland's Islands with a series of "Island Cèiildhs" showcasing some of our best known Gaelic singers from the islands along with great traditional acommpaniment.The taste of a real cèilidh coming your way!
